Kamenets-Podolsky National University is a state-owned higher education institution subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The educational process at Kamenets-Podolsky National University is carried out by 430 scientific and pedagogical workers, including 63 doctors of sciences, professors and 289 candidates of sciences, associate professors.
Over the years of its existence, Kamenets-Podolsky National University has trained more than 93,000 thousand specialists for preschool, general education, vocational (vocational and technical), vocational higher education institutions, higher educational institutions.
The main structural units of the university are:
preparatory department, preparatory department for foreign citizens and stateless persons, 8 faculties (Faculty of History, Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism, Faculty of Foreign Philology, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Economics, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Physical Culture, Faculty of Correctional and Social Pedagogy and Psychology) , Center for advanced training of specialists, research sector, 37 departments, 11 research centers, 2 educational-scientific-methodical complexes, 2 training, research and production, complexes 22 research and teaching laboratories.
Kamenets-Podolsky National University is located in 12 educational and laboratory buildings. Students live in 6 dormitories, there are 2 stadiums, a sports and recreation camp.
History of Kamenets-Podolsky National University
The history of Kamenets-Podolsky National University dates back to August 17, 1918, when Hetman of Ukraine Pavel Skoropadsky signed a law establishing the Kamenets-Podolsky State Ukrainian University.
Ivan Ogienko, a well-known linguist, professor, and active participant in Ukrainian state building, was elected the first rector of the university.
In 1920, the university was first transformed into the Academy of Theoretical Knowledge, and on February 2, 1921 – into the Institute of Theoretical Sciences as part of three autonomous institutes: physical and mathematical, humanities and agricultural sciences.
During the 1930s and 1940s, the Institute of Public Education was reorganized three times, in particular in 1930 it was reorganized into the Institute of Social Education, in 1933-1934 into a pedagogical institute, and from 1939 into a teacher’s institute.
From the 1948-1949 academic year, the Kamenets-Podolsky Teachers’ Institute was reorganized into a pedagogical institute.
In 1997, Kamenets-Podolsky State Pedagogical University was established on the basis of the Pedagogical Institute.
In 2008, Kamenets-Podolsky State University was awarded the status of a national university. In the same year, by order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1119, Kamenets-Podolsky National University was named after Ivan Ogienko.
